What is Tourism Insights?
Tourism Insights is AirDNA’s new intelligence hub geared specifically for destination marketers, researchers, and tourism pros. The all-new platform is a synthesis of the travel industry’s two crucial data sets — AirDNA short-term rental data, and Arrivalist visitation intelligence.
Since AirDNA’s acquisition of Arrivalist in 2023, our teams have been working hard to create an interactive, online experience that blends these insights into one cohesive dashboard. Tourism Insights unites two powerhouses to deliver unparalleled insights and innovative products, setting a new standard in data-driven decision-making for the hospitality industry.
Inside Tourism Insights users will find answers to the most important questions in travel management:
- Where are my city’s visitors traveling from?
- How long are they staying?
- What percentage are staying in short-term rentals vs. hotels?
- How are short-term rentals changing my lodging market?
- How are my marketing campaigns influencing visitation?
Watch what's new in 90 seconds below.
"By welcoming Arrivalist to AirDNA, we’re accelerating our growth trajectory and reinforcing our commitment to delivering industry-leading insights to our customers. The union of our powerful data platforms will provide businesses with unrivaled intelligence, empowering them to strategize with increased precision" — Demi Horvat, CEO, AirDNA
How does it help?
Tourism Insights helps DMOs in four key ways: Discover, Share, Optimize, and Evaluate.
1. Discover
With Tourism Insights, destinations can easily discover important travel trends for their communities.
With the all-new short-term rental visualizations, users can discover how many vacation rentals are in their backyard, where they’re located, and how much revenue they’re generating.
With Arrivalist-powered geolocation data, users can leverage mobile devices to understand everything around traveler movement. Find out where your travelers visit from, how long they stay, top points of interest, and more.
2. Share
Once users have uncovered the trends, Tourism Insights is used to tell compelling stories in presentations, board meetings, and more.
Easily export any chart or table into any format to help communicate the evolution of travel. Whether teams work best with raw data or colorful graphs, Tourism Insights is flexible in helping convey cutting-edge insights.
3. Optimize
Next, destinations use Tourism Insights to optimize campaigns and influence behavior. Use the data to help redirect marketing budgets, promote unique points of interest, or mitigate overtourism.
4. Evaluate
Lastly, Tourism Insights helps destinations evaluate the impact of their actions. “Did the tweaks we made last quarter actually result in increased visitation?” Now it’s easy to find out.
"We’re delighted to join with AirDNA to bring customers even more insights, resources and innovative products. Bringing together these two powerhouses creates tremendous opportunities for future growth and continued innovation." — Cree Lawson, CEO and Founder, Arrivalist.
Key Functionality
Below is a rundown on how each of Tourism Insights’ core components helps DMOs make smart, data-driven decisions.
Vacation Rental Data
The vacation rental tabs are the new home base for destinations to track their city’s alternative accommodations. For those familiar with old AirDNA Trend, Pacing, and Market Summary Reports, this new dashboard is the evolution of those reports in an online, interactive format.
The Vacation Rental tabs are powered by AirDNA’s industry-leading algorithms that track the performance of every listing on Airbnb and Vrbo — over 10 million listings in 120,000 global markets.
The new dashboard helps users:
- Track any metric over any stretch of time — fully customizable according to each DMOs’ needs.
- See how vacation rentals are changing the lodging landscape in any market.
- Use property-level filters to see how trends differ by listing size and price tier (budget vs. luxury).
- Use map views to compare short-term rental activity by neighborhood and against top comparable markets.
- Track pacing & future outlook
- Use daily data to conduct next-level event analysis.
Trip Insights & Points of Interest
Trip Insights is an interactive portal that allows users to see the complete picture of movement to and through a destination. Trip Insights is used to:
- Uncover compelling insights for traveler origin — see which origin markets are sending the most travelers.
- See when travelers arrive with easy-to-use seasonality charts.
- Find out how long visitors stay
- Track traveler movement among top attractions and see how points of interest differ by traveler origin.
Lodging Insights
Lodging Insights is the home base for tracking the entire accommodation landscape in any location. Lodging Insights empowers users to:
- Use Arrivalist-powered geolocation data to discover which accommodation types are most frequented by travelers.
- See the percentages of travelers staying in hotels versus short-term rentals and even those staying with friends and relatives.
- Learn the average revenue provided per arrival of hotel guests vs short-term rental guests.
- See how average revenue per arrival changes by travelers’ home state, DMA, and zip code.
- Uncover how arrival revenue changes seasonally throughout the year.
- Discover the real revenue difference between visitors who stay for a single night versus those staying longer.
Campaign Attribution
The Campaign Attribution section of Tourism Insights empowers users to measure the impact of media on visitation. Here are some of the most powerful features:
- Easily see which destination marketing campaigns led to the most visitation.
- Filter and sort by medium, source, and campaign to uncover insights.
- Discover which campaigns served in specific regions drove the most visitation.
- See the average days after media exposure visitors arrived in your destination.
