The April 8th total solar eclipse ignited a sharp rise in travel demand across North America, especially within the eclipse’s path of totality. Airbnb listings in that zone reached nearly 90% occupancy, while AirDNA reported 92.4% occupancy across the U.S., Mexico and Canada, up from just 30% days earlier. AirDNA also noted record weekly demand spikes of 514% in New Hampshire and 338% in Missouri. Flights, hotels, and rental cars surged in tandem, with Hertz reporting a 3,000% increase in bookings. As traditional accommodations filled up, Americans turned to campsites and RVs, with Hipcamp reporting a 9,000% spike in regional bookings.

It is a nice bump in demand in a relatively slow period of the year. Typically April isn’t a high point for short-term rental demand.
