What is the How to Avoid a Bad STR Buy webinar?

It is a 30-minute live session, held every Wednesday at 12:30pm ET and included with any AirDNA subscription, where AirDNA's Chief Economist Jamie Lane runs a full short-term rental underwrite on a real address. Most bad buys fail the same few tests, so the session works through five major indicators in order and shows you exactly where each one sits in your own account. Then he stays on to answer questions about anything else in the platform.

The format is the same every week, so there is no date to wait for. Bring a property or a market and it may be the one we underwrite.

How do you underwrite a short-term rental?

You start from a specific address rather than a market average, then work through the checks that decide whether the deal holds up: what the property should realistically earn, which listings it genuinely competes with, how seasonal the demand is, and what the local rules allow. Doing all of that on one address is a full underwrite, and it is what this session walks through live every week.

I just subscribed to AirDNA. What should I do first?

Come to this session. It is the shortest route from a new login to a decision you can defend, because it shows you which parts of your account matter for a real buying decision and in what order to use them. Rather than touring every feature, it runs the checks that actually turn a yes into a no.

Who is this session for?

Anyone with an active AirDNA subscription, particularly in the first few weeks. It is most useful if you are one of these:

Yes, and it is the point. Bring a property or a market and we may run the full underwrite on yours live. Afterwards we stay on for open questions about anything else in the platform, not just the five checks.

How is this different from the Thursday AirDNA webinar?

Thursday is the STR Deal Hunt, aimed at people who have not subscribed yet. It starts from a whole map with no shortlist and searches for a market and then a property from scratch. This Wednesday session assumes you already have a paid account and an address in mind, and underwrites that specific property against five checks. If you have subscribed, come to this one.

What data will we be working with?

AirDNA tracks more than 15 million active short-term rental listings across more than 120,000 markets worldwide, with historical performance data going back to 2014. Every check is run against that dataset in a live account, so you leave knowing the clicks rather than holding notes about them.
