Key Takeaways

  • Make sure your listing isn’t set to "Unlisted" or "Snoozed" and check that your calendar is open with no unintended blocked dates.
  • Increase visibility in competitive markets by using Instant Book, adjusting pricing regularly, and lowering minimum stay requirements.
  • Improve search ranking with high-quality photos, a compelling description, fast response times, and positive guest reviews.

You’ve purchased a rental property, invested time and money into furnishing it, and spent hours meticulously crafting your listing—only to realize that your Airbnb listing isn’t showing up in search results.

The longer your listing fails to appear for interested travelers, the fewer stays you’ll book. The fewer stays you book, the fewer positive reviews you’ll receive—which means even guests who do come across your property might be deterred from booking.

It’s a vicious cycle that you’ll want to stop as soon as possible.

Fortunately, there are a few common reasons why your Airbnb listing might not be showing up, and most can be fixed easily. In this guide, we’ll cover the steps you can take to put your short-term rental (STR) listing back in front of guests.

Why Is My Airbnb Listing Not Showing Up?

Several factors can contribute to your Airbnb listing not appearing in search results. Let's dive into the most common reasons and what you can do about them.

Processing delays for new listings

One of the most common reasons your new Airbnb listing is not showing up is that it’s still going through Airbnb’s internal verification process.

Airbnb’s verification process

When you publish a new listing, Airbnb reviews it to make sure everything is in order. This process typically takes up to 72 hours. During this time, your listing won’t appear in search results, even though it may be live on your dashboard.

What hosts can do in the meantime

Take this opportunity to double-check your listing settings and verify that all necessary information is filled out accurately. Review your property details, amenities, house rules, and pricing to make sure everything is complete and up-to-date.

This will help expedite the verification process and increase your chances of visibility once your listing goes live.

Listing status issues

Your Airbnb listing might not be showing up because of a technical issue with its status.

Snooze or unlisted status

It's possible that your listing might be accidentally set to "snoozed" or "unlisted" status. This can happen if you've temporarily deactivated your listing or if there's been an error in your account settings.

To check and correct this:

1. Log in to your Airbnb account

2. Go to "Listings" in your dashboard

3. Under “Your listings,” check the status in the upper left-hand corner of the thumbnail for your Airbnb listing. It will say “Listed” with a green dot or “Unlisted” with a gray dot.

4. If it's set to "Unlisted," click on the listing and select the hamburger menu to the right of “Arrival guide” under the Listing editor.

5. In Edit preferences, select “Listing status.”

6. Make your Airbnb active by selecting “Listed.”

While “Unlisted” will hide your listing from search results indefinitely, “Snoozed” status is when you hide your listing in search results for a set period of time. Hosts may choose to snooze their listing if they want to stop receiving reservations for a while or if they want to have the property available for personal use. Your listing will appear “Snoozed” in your Listings dashboard on those dates, but will automatically switch back to “Listed” when your selected time frame has passed.

Keep in mind that unlisting your Airbnb does not block your calendar, it just stops your listing from appearing in search results. Unlisting is also not an option if you have any pending guest reservations.

Check that your listing is set to the correct status so that it shows up in search. Resolving visibility issues caused by accidental deactivation is an easy fix.

High competition in the area

Airbnb only displays 300 listings per search result page. If you're in a highly competitive area, your property might be getting pushed to the back of the line, especially if you don’t have many reviews or are priced too high. This is a common reason a listing is not showing up on Airbnb, even though it’s technically active.

Troubleshooting Steps to Make Your Airbnb Listing Visible

If your listing isn’t showing up in search results and none of the above issues apply, it’s time to troubleshoot other factors.

Check calendar availability and booking settings

Your listing’s visibility is directly tied to your availability settings. It’s possible that your Airbnb listing is not showing up because you have blocked dates or unfavorable minimum stay requirements.

How to ensure dates are not blocked

Blocked dates can prevent your listing from appearing in search results.

To address this:

1. Log in to your Airbnb host account

2. Navigate to “Calendar” on the top navigation menu.

3. Identify any unintentional blocked nights. Blocked nights will appear black with a slash through the date.

4. To make a blocked date available to book, select the date and click on “Edit availability.”

5. Select “Open nights” and click save.

Ensure your availability is up-to-date and accurately reflects when your property can be booked. You increase the chances of your listing appearing in relevant searches by maintaining an open and accurate calendar.

Minimum stay requirements

Strict minimum stay requirements can limit your listing's visibility in search results. If your listing requires a minimum stay of, say, five nights, it won’t appear in search results for guests looking for a shorter date range. Lowering your minimum stay requirement may increase visibility.

Assess whether your minimum stay is too long for the typical guest search, and consider adjusting it to be more flexible—especially during off-peak seasons.

Create 5-star guest experiences

With Uplisting, you can send the right messages at the right time on all booking sites. Read and respond to guest messages in a single, unified inbox — whether you’re at the office or on the go.

Optimize listing with Airbnb filters in mind

Airbnb offers filters to help guests narrow down their options when they’re searching for a property to book. Guests use filters to exclude listings that don’t match what they’re looking for.

Make sure your listing aligns with the most common filters potential guests might use.

Guest capacity and accommodation type

Ensure that your property details are accurate, especially regarding:

  • The type of accommodation (e.g., entire place, private room, shared room)
  • Guest capacity
  • Number of bedrooms and beds

Accurate information helps your listing appear in relevant searches and meets guests' expectations. Adding additional bedrooms can also help your listing appear higher in search results. We explore this topic in-depth in your article on What’s the Best Number of Bedrooms for Your Airbnb?

Location accuracy and map placement

Double-check that your listing’s location is accurately displayed on the map. If your map placement is off, guests might skip over your listing because they think it’s too far from popular attractions.

To verify and correct your map placement:

1. Navigate to “Listings” on the top navigation bar.

2. Select your listing and scroll down to “Location” in the Listing editor.

3. Click on the “Adjust” button in the upper right corner of the map.

4. Move the pin on the map to accurately reflect your property's location and select “Save.”

Activate Instant Book to boost visibility

Airbnb’s Instant Book feature allows guests to book your short-term vacation rental without waiting for your approval. Turning it on can give your listing a boost in the booking platform’s search results because it improves your host response rate, which Airbnb rewards with better visibility. It’s hard to beat the speed of automatic booking approval!

How Instant Book works

Turning on Instant Book allows guests who meet your requirements to reserve your space with just a click.

If you want to enable Instant Book, you'll have to set a few requirements for guests. For example, you can require that guests have a verified phone number, email address, and payment method. You could also require that guests meet a minimum or maximum length of stay, or are traveling with a certain number of guests.

Use Airbnb’s search filters to check listing visibility

Try manually performing a search in Airbnb where your listing should show up. For example, if you own a 2-bedroom property in the Culver City area of Los Angeles with a hot tub, search for properties in that area using the proper bedroom and amenity filters. Make sure you conduct your search for dates that are available on your Airbnb calendar.

Putting yourself in the shoes of a guest can help you identify any discrepancies in your listing settings that might be affecting its visibility.

So automatic, you won’t know what to do with yourself

It’s simple to automate repetitive tasks with Uplisting's short-term rental software. You’ll save hours every week and eliminate human error. Go ahead — take some time off.

Improve Your Airbnb Search Ranking

Airbnb’s search algorithm is anything but random—it carefully assesses property quality, popularity, price, and location to determine how a listing appears in search results.

In addition to fixing visibility issues, optimizing your listing for Airbnb’s search algorithm can further improve your ranking.

Try these tactics to optimize your listing and boost its ranking:

  • Use high-quality photos: Listings with eye-catching images increase your click-through rate (CTR), or how often guests click on your listing after seeing it in search results. The higher your CTR, the better you rank in search results.
  • Write a compelling title and description: Highlight unique features of your property, like proximity to popular attractions or standout amenities. Keywords that emphasize cleanliness, privacy and eco-friendly features are proven to increase how often your listing appears on the first page of Airbnb’s search results.
  • Showcase unique selling points: Throughout your listing—particularly in imagery and in your property description—be sure to highlight the most distinct and desirable parts of your property. Airbnb’s algorithm favors properties with 8-9 amenities that it thinks will be most appealing to guests.
  • Respond to guests quickly: Maintain a high response rate by responding to inquiries promptly (within 24 hours). A property management software (PMS) like Uplisting can automate your communication with guests using pre-approved templates.
  • Increase your number of positive reviews and ratings: Highly rated listings are seen as higher quality by Airbnb, making them more likely to rank high. Always request guests to leave reviews by sending an automated message after every stay.
  • Adjust your pricing: Airbnb says that listings with prices that align—or undercut—local market averages tend to rank higher in search results. Competitive pricing adjustments, especially made mid-week, can help you rank higher in search results. Use AirDNA to see how your rates compare to other listings in your area.
